International Collaboration

In addition to active exchange opportunities, Technion has entered into four partnerships with Canadian institutions.

The Technion is collaborating with Canada’s University of Waterloo to promote pure and applied research in quantum information science, nanotechnology and water. The Technion is partnering with The Lassonde School of Engineering at York University in Toronto to teach its Technion e.Xpert® Program, a mix of academics and entrepreneurism.

The Technion and the Toronto-based University Health Network (UHN) have established the Technion-UHN International Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation, aimed at developing new ways to treat heart disease. Other Canadian partners include the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre.

The Technion and the University of Calgary share two partnerships. The first is a joint research collaborative effort in clean fuel technologies and the development of alternative energy concepts that will lead both Institutions to new remedies in the fight against climate degradation. The other partnership also includes the Hebrew University and Calgary’s Hotchkiss Brain Institute. This collaborative effort is leading to an integration of research in foundational Brain Science and the partners are working to improve the lives of those suffering from brain trauma and disease.

MIT and the Technion have long been collaborating in research projects and student exchange programs. In November 2013, France’s Ecole Polytechnique signed an agreement for academic cooperation, cementing ongoing exchanges between the two.

Cornell Tech
In 2011, Cornell University and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology won the City of New York‘s competition to create an Applied Sciences graduate school.Cornell Tech brings together faculty, business leaders, tech entrepreneurs and students in a catalytic environment to produce visionary results grounded in significant needs that will reinvent the way we live in the digital age.

From 2012-2017, the campus was temporarily located in Google’s New York City building. In fall 2017, 30 world-class faculty and almost 300 graduate students moved to the first phase of Cornell Tech’s permanent campus on Roosevelt Island, continuing to conduct groundbreaking research, collaborate extensively with tech-oriented companies and organizations and pursue their own startups. When fully completed, the campus will include two million square feet of state-of-the-art buildings, over two acres of open space, and will be home to more than 2,000 graduate students and hundreds of faculty and staff. The new applied science campus is expected to play a transformative role in New York City’s economy and leadership as a center for start-ups and innovation.

The Jacobs Institute, the key academic component of Cornell Tech, is an integral part of New York City’s burgeoning tech ecosystem. The Jacobs Institute degree programs–Health Tech and Connective Media–focus on impacting specific NYC industries instead of traditional disciplines. Programs offered include a unique dual master’s degree program specializing in information science, its first class graduating in Spring 2016.

In addition, recent PhD graduates are building companies at the Jacobs Institute through the Jacobs Runway Startup Postdoctoral program, where postdocs transform their research into new companies and products.
