A Technion Canada National Event
Thursday 2 May, 5:30 – 7:30 pm

An Evening to Explore the Food of the Future and 100 years of Technion Innovation

On May 2nd, the Montreal community gathered together for an inspiring and tasty evening in a classy and elegant setting for our first Technion Canada Centennial Event.  The Evening took us all on a journey to Explore the Food of the Future and 100 years of Technion Innovation

The event opened up with a warm welcome for Technion Canada’s National Executive Director, Elysa Greisman followed by honoured guest Professor Wayne D KaplanTechnion Vice-President for External Relations and Resource Development. Prof Kaplan gave greetings from the team at Technion in Israel, talked about the current war, the students and faculty who were called up and how the institution supported and continues to support both faculty and students as they try to return to normalcy. He was also proud at how Technion research has continued to flourish despite the war and gave an overview of impact of 100 years of innovation and the future vision  of Technion in this Centennial year.

We were grateful to host Paul HirschsonConsul General to Israel for Quebec and Atlantic Canada, who addressed the ongoing anti semitism on school campuses and here in Montreal and eluded to the fact that supporting the Technion is a priority for our community and for Israel to continue to make ongoing global impacts in research and technology.

Keynote speakers included:

Prof. Yoav Livney, of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering, and director of the recently launched Sustainable Protein Research Center .

Assoc. Prof. Maya Davidovich-Pinhas, Head of the Foods Materials Engineering Lab;  Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Engineering.

As well as a PhD student, Daniel Golodnizky who spoke about his experience as a Technion student and his meaningful work in food technology.

A big reveal came about during the program that all food served by Beso Catering was vegan. We were then treated and amazed by a cooking demonstration by Chef Josh Crowe of Monkland Tavern as well as a taste of his delicious creation inspired by local ingredients and appreciation of our Canadian land.

Overall it was a night of learning, socializing over delicious food and sustainably made Tabor wine and Aupale vodka and a celebration Food Technology and 100 years of Technion innovation and impact!

Thank you to those who joined and we hope those who weren’t able to attend will join us next time!
