Celebrating a Milestone – Freda Hahn turns 100!

Long-Standing Supporter Freda Hahn, alongside her late husband Jack z”l, was a prominent figure within the Canadian Technion Society (CTS), now known as Technion Canada. During the 1960s, Freda served as President of the Women’s Division, while Jack took the helm as President of the Toronto chapter upon their relocation in the 1980s. Their legacy extends through significant contributions, including their involvement in the Toronto Technion High-Tech Fund (TTT), which notably supported the construction of Canada dormitories and aided the influx of Soviet immigrants in the 1990s. Additionally, they established an enduring scholarship in their names, and Jack earned a place on the esteemed Technion Board of Governors. To commemorate Jack’s centenary in 2020, family and friends came together to establish the Jack Hahn Fellowship. Last November, Freda reunited with Prof. Sivan, TTT members, and their descendants, demonstrating her enduring gratitude towards Technion. In a congratulatory letter to Freda, Prof. Sivan remarked, ‘Your collective endeavors have profoundly influenced the growth of Technion Canada into the thriving hub of scientific and technological advancement it is today.’ In honor of Freda’s 100th birthday, the Fellowship has been renamed the Jack z’l and Freda Hahn Fellowship.

We invite the Technion Canada community to join in honoring Freda’s legacy by contributing to the Fellowship. For more information, please contact Franzi Lapinsky at 416.789.4545 x201 or franzi@technioncanada.org.
