HAIFA, Israel (Press Release) –Since October 7, we’ve experienced a massive global spike in antisemitism. By last measure, online antisemitism has increased 1200% since Hamas attacked Israel – a troubling worldwide trend that is manifesting in real life on college campuses and in Jewish communities.
Enter Zachary Bamberger, a Technion graduate student of computer science. In response to the rise in antisemitic postings following October 7, he started building a team. Zachary enlisted the help of more than 40 Ph.D.s and in just 10 days, the group had built an AI that scans social media, checks for posts that violate the terms of service of the platform where it appears, and reports such posts on the spot.
If the post itself doesn’t violate the terms of service but contains dangerous misinformation, the AI can generate and report a counterargument. The AI can also translate Hebrew language posts so non-Hebrew speakers can better understand what’s happening on the ground in Israel.
It’s a technological breakthrough that has the potential to shift the toxic social discourse online and increase the impact of pro-Israel efforts on social media.
